FEATURES

Explore the interactive hotspots below to learn more about the DT-300.

The Talon DT-300 is purpose designed to deliver outstanding payload ‘v’ range performance, outperforming conventional multi-rotors (quadcopters, coax quadrotors etc) by a factor of up to four times. This industry leading efficiency is driven by its highly optimised dual rotor aerodynamics, utilising active blade pitch control (cyclic and collective) to harness translation lift during forward flight. It’s ultra-high aspect ratio, 3.5m (11.5ft) rotors maximise lift and minimise drag, setting it apart from conventional designs and other industry competitors.  Due to its extremely low disc loading (4.6kg/m2 which is 4 – 5 times lower than that of a typical cargo helicopter) the Talon achieves unprecedented efficiency in both hover and forward flight. This results in unparallelled range performance and extremely quiet operation; the Talon has the lowest acoustic signature of any VTOL system in its payload class.

The Talon DT-300 adopts a dual-rotor configuration, a deliberate departure from traditional single-rotor helicopters with tail rotors or conventional multi-rotors with 4 to 8 blades. Importantly, this design choice mirrors the proven success of the Boeing CH-47 Chinook cargo helicopter – the longest-serving helicopter in history, with 63 years of operational excellence and ongoing production. The dual-rotor format offers unparalleled efficiency, proven performance, and reliability.

As the “mini-Chinook” of the VTOL UAV industry, the Talon DT-300 builds on this legacy with modern advancements. Its ultra-lightweight, low-drag, folding carbon composite fuselage ensures maximum portability and performance, while its clean, quiet, and efficient electric propulsion system sets a new standard for simplicity and sustainability. The Talon DT-300 represents a leap forward in UAV design, combining the best of aerospace engineering with cutting-edge innovation.

DT-300

UNIQUE ROTOR HEAD

Rotron’s proprietary three-bladed rotor head system enables cyclic and collective pitch control, providing electro-mechanical stabilization and efficient lift. With ~30% fewer moving parts than conventional rotorheads and a driverless swashplate, it offers simplicity, energy efficiency, and reduced costs. Designed and tested in-house, it showcases Rotron’s expertise in metallurgy and aerodynamics.

In contrast, multi-rotors rely on rigid rotors and variable speeds, leading to higher energy use and limiting blade size due to inertia.

DT-300

CAMERA

The TALON DT-300 comes equipped with the Next Vision Raptor camera, a lightweight, long-range, dual EO-IR stabilized turret. Featuring an extended IR range and an X80 EO zoom, the Raptor delivers exceptional imaging performance, ensuring superior target detection, identification, and tracking.

This integration enhances the DT-300’s capabilities for ISTAR missions, reconnaissance, and surveillance, making it an unmatched asset in demanding operational environments.

DT-300

FLIGHT CONTROL
& NAVIGATION

Operates autonomously with adapted flight control systems. Multiple navigation systems (GPS, inertial and optical) enable Talon to operate in contested environments. Electronic stabilization manages roll, pitch and yaw control in turbulent and tough weather conditions.

DT-300

CARBON FIBRE BODY

An automatically rolled, cylindrical carbon composite fuselage results in a strong, light weight design. This simple design simplifies manufacture (inline process) without the need for hand ”lay up” and autoclaves.

As a result, the traditional limitations of carbon fibre manufacture of variability and slow scale up are overcome. The tubular composite fuselage can accommodate a Rotron aero-engine as part of a series hybrid battery charging generator for longer range variants.

DT-300

LARGE ROTOR BLADE

Large, 3.5m rotor diameter, with ultra-high aspect ratio and low disk-loading. A highly stable design, capable of heavy lift. Blades are of Rotron Aerospace design, manufactured by a 3rd party utilising tooling designed and owned by Rotron Aerospace.

DT-300

LOCKING HINGE

The DT-300 folding hinge is an engineered mechanism designed to enhance the portability and storage of the DT-300. It allows the device to fold into three sections, significantly reducing its length, making it easier to pack into a single, transportable box.

The hinge features a locking mechanism that securely fastens the sections when unfolded, ensuring stability and preventing unwanted movement during use.

DT-300

EFFICIENT PROPULSION SYSTEM

A proprietary, liquid cooled electric propulsion system with outstanding SWAP-C metrics for each rotor (removes the need for complex transmission systems).

Batteries (lithium-ion), battery management system and motors are to Rotron specification, integrated by Rotron utilising a trusted, UK-based supply chain. Outstanding thermal management ensures operational efficiency. Batteries may be switched out or recharged.

DT-300

TANDEM MOTOR

Tandem, counter-rotating rotors, remove the need for a tail rotor – all power is used for generating lift which also significantly reduces noise. Foldable body and blades overcome traditional limitations of tandem rotor designs having a large footprint.

DT-150

CAMERA

The TALON DT-150 features the NextVision Raptor – a lightweight, long-range dual EO-IR stabilized turret. With extended IR range and X80 EO zoom, it delivers outstanding imaging for target detection, identification, and tracking.

This integration enhances the DT-150’s performance in ISTAR, reconnaissance, and surveillance missions, making it a highly capable asset in demanding environments.
